Russia Warns UK Over Missile Aid

MOSCOW, Aug. 24 — The Kremlin said Monday that Britain’s decision to provide Ukraine with classified information on British-made components used in SCALP long-range cruise missiles would “add fuel to the fire,” as London moved to help Kyiv expand domestic missile production.

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham arrived in Kyiv on Monday for his first overseas trip since taking office and was expected to announce support aimed at improving Ukraine’s ability to manufacture long-range missiles.

Asked about the visit and the British assistance, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov accused London of trying to block progress toward an eventual peace agreement.

“Britain is involved in this war on the side of the Kyiv regime. Britain methodically and regularly adds fuel to the fire and methodically and regularly hatches schemes to prevent even the slightest progress in the peaceful settlement process,” Peskov told reporters.

Peskov said the Russian military was already systematically collecting information to identify missile production sites and destroy them.

The latest warning follows another dispute between Moscow and London over British military support for Ukraine. Russia last week warned Britain of unspecified “consequences” for supplying drones to Kyiv after a report said British-made drones had been used for long-range attacks against Russia for the first time.

Burnham responded at the time that Britain remained fully committed to supporting Ukraine against what he called “this illegal war.”
