US aware of reports Navy sailor detained in Venezuela, defense official says

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States is aware of reports that a Navy sailor was detained by Venezuelan authorities on or about Aug. 30 while on personal travel to Venezuela, a U.S. defense official said on Wednesday.
The U.S. Navy is looking into the matter and working closely with the State Department, the official said.
